Todd Thomas Home Highlights Cabinet Findings From NKBA 2027 Kitchen Trends Report

MELBOURNE, FL – October 21, 2026 – PRESSADVANTAGE –

Todd Thomas Home, a Melbourne, FL, remodeling contractor and National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA) member, is highlighting cabinet findings from NKBA’s 2027 Kitchen Trends Report during Kitchen and Bath Month. The company earlier published a guide to choosing between framed and frameless cabinets, a decision that shapes cabinet appearance and function. The report adds current industry data.

The recently released report draws on a survey of designers, manufacturers, remodelers, and architects. NKBA represents nearly 55,000 North American kitchen and bath professionals and designates October as Kitchen and Bath Month. Percentages cited in this release reflect the designers who responded to the survey.

Among the report’s findings, designers ranked cabinet upgrades first for return on investment, at 54 percent. Layout reconfiguration followed closely at 49 percent, according to the same report. Those results place cabinet planning near the center of kitchen remodeling decisions rather than treating it as a finishing detail.

Designers also see cabinetry taking on a concealing role, with 85 percent agreeing it is increasingly designed to hide appliances and other functional elements. Meanwhile, 64 percent agree that open shelving is giving way to enclosed storage. Together, the figures point toward a quieter, more built-in kitchen appearance with fewer visible items.

Storage is also changing, with 88 percent of designers agreeing that pantries are evolving from simple storage into multifunctional extensions of the kitchen. Seventy-three percent of designers expect dedicated small-appliance stations to be popular. Walk-in pantries are expected to dominate, according to 67 percent of designers surveyed.

Lighting built into cabinetry shows a similar pattern. 87 percent of designers expect under-cabinet lights to be popular, while 76 percent expect the same for interior-cabinet lighting. Both figures suggest that cabinet design now extends to how a kitchen is illuminated.

Material choices are shifting as well, with 49 percent of designers naming white oak as the wood of choice. Natural material cabinets with no applied finish drew 34 percent, while light-toned and medium-toned cabinetry each earned 32 percent. 54 percent also agree that the kitchen island will feature a color distinct from the surrounding cabinetry.

Contractors can use the report as a practical reference point for homeowners researching kitchen cabinets in Melbourne, FL. It can inform conversations about door styles, storage layouts, and finishes before homeowners finalize decisions. Todd Thomas Home encourages homeowners to look beyond labels and consider how each choice will feel in everyday use.

The report describes a kitchen in transition, as defined zones and partial walls begin to replace fully open floor plans. The 2026 edition still placed open layouts in a growth phase. 86 percent of designers now agree that kitchen layouts are simplifying, with less clutter and a more spacious feel.

Attached mudrooms are expected to remain popular, according to 94 percent of designers. Growth in kitchen size is also cooling, with 52 percent of designers expecting larger footprints over the next three years, down from 76 percent in the previous report. Cabinet and storage planning increasingly connects to adjacent rooms.
